BP, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences to conduct archaeological excavations

BP and Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish cooperation on detailed research on important archaeological findings made during the expansion of the South Caucasus Pipeline, said Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, communications, external affairs, strategy and region vice president at BP Azerbaijan.
The work to be carried out under the document includes two months of excavation by six archaeologists representing the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
The length of the South Caucasus Pipeline exceeds 700 kilometers. Gas produced at the Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea is transported via the pipeline. The gas is delivered to Georgia and Turkey.
The expansion of the South Caucasus Pipeline is carried out as part of the Shah Deniz project in Azerbaijan and Georgia. In general, the project has been completed by more than 98 percent. (Trend.az)
