Anaklia Deep Sea Port construction begins
Thursday, December 28
The construction works for the Anaklia Deep Sea Port have been launched. As Georgia’s Governmental Administration has informed IPN, Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has taken part in the construction opening ceremony.
He has assessed the port as the largest project of the 21st century that represents a beginning of Georgia’s transformation from a transit country into the country of industry, logistics and development.
‘First and foremost, the port is a unique project as it will strengthen Georgia’s position on the Silk Road Way map. The port will allow our country to host the biggest ships and keep pace with the increasing dynamics of the container or different shipping that take place in the region. Of course, the port will allow the residents of the region as well as entire Georgia to reach completely different possibilities for their own business and launch a totally new one. Several thousand people will be employed during the construction process,’ he has remarked.
According to him a large territory around the port will develop as a new residential, as well as logistic and industrial zone.
The Georgian PM has thanked the Anaklia Development Consortium for conducting several-year greatest work and underlined involvement of the U.S. engineering company Conti and SSA Marine in the process.
‘This is a place where Europe meets Asia and this is the main thing. Georgia will be shown throughout the world as a country of international cooperation, stability and peace. I would like to congratulate you on this day once again, I would like to congratulate Georgia on the day… as a new Georgia starts here. It is no exaggeration,’ Giorgi Kvirikashvili has remarked.
