Turkey, Russia, China – Georgia’s top trading partners in 2017

Turkey, Russia and China are Georgia’s top trade partners in 2017, shows the preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

Georgia’s top 10 trade partners in 2017 made for 66.7 percent of the country’s total trade turnover, with Turkey ($1.58 billion), Russia ($1.18 billion) and China ($939.5 million) filling the top three spots.



Trade with EU countries

Trade turnover with European Union (EU) countries increased by two percent year-on-year (y/y) and amounted to $2.84 billion, said Geostat.

Exports were worth $646.5 million (13 percent higher), while imports reached $2.19 billion (0.8 percent higher).



Trade with CIS countries

The external trade turnover of Georgia with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries totalled $3.54 billion in 2017 – 30.2 percent higher compared to 2016.

Exports were worth $1.18 million (60 percent higher) while imports equalled $2.36 billion (19.2 percent higher).

Georgia's top exported commodities in 2017 were:
- Copper ores and concentrates (worth $419.8 million, or 15.4 percent of total exports)
- Ferro-alloys (worth $306.9 million, or 11.3 percent of total exports)
- Motor cars (worth $234.9 million, or 8.6 percent of total exports)



What are Georgia's main imports?

Georgia's top imported commodities were:
- Petroleum and petroleum oils (worth $696.6 million, or 8.7 percent of total imports)
- Motor cars (worth $474.4 million or 5.9 percent of total imports)
- Petroleum gases (worth $350.4 million, or 4.4 percent of total imports)
