Learning two foreign languages will be mandatory again for high school students
The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia responded to media reports in recent days stating that studying the second foreign language in public schools is not mandatory.
“The main goal of the Ministry is to establish higher standards on teaching foreign languages in schools. Foreign languages will enjoy more priorities.
Teaching two foreign languages will still be mandatory for students. English - from the first grade, and from 5th grade, students will have an opportunity to choose the second mandatory foreign language from the languages offered by their schools. Furthermore, schools will be obliged to offer at least two language choices for the students," reads the statement by the Ministry.
Tbilisi City Hall to Solve Problem of Chaotic Constructions
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze noted that one of the main challenges in Tbilisi is chaotic constructions, adding they have started working on it.
"Today we had a meeting with experts and scholars. We have to implement many significant projects in upcoming years and the involvement of non-governmental organizations, scientists and experts is very important. We have a pretty ambitious plan and we believe that a lot of people will be involved in the development of the city,” said Kaladze.
He also said that the City Hall has started working on elaborating a general plan and that many experts are involved in this process.
Georgia’s Foreign Trade Turnover Increased by 20.1% in January 2018.
Foreign trade turnover in Georgia amounted to 815.8 million USD according to the state statistics office, Geostat.
Exports from Georgia increased by 25.7% (222.2 million USD), while import increased by 18.1 % (593.6 million USD).
Negative trade balance amounted to 371.3 million USD in January 2018.
