The Chairman of the Georgian Dream political faction, Mamuka Mdinaradze and other members of the faction met students and held a discussion on drug policy issues on February 16 at Parliament of Georgia in Tbilisi.
The goal of the meeting was to maximize students' involvement in legislative amendments on drug policy liberalization.
Mdinaradze noted that every rational opinion is important on this issue.
“Our goal is to establish a correct drug policy, in order to make a positive impact on the fight against drugs. The bills proposed refer to future generations as well as to a significant part of our society. We consider it interesting to meet the students and get acquainted with their proposals and opinions," said Mdinaradze.
The Chair of the Education, Science and Culture Committee, Mariam Jashi and the Chair of the Healthcare Committee of Parliament, Akaki Zoidze were also attending the event.
“Healthy life does not have an alternative,” stated Zoidze.
During the meeting, it was noted that the education from a early age as well as raising awareness is very important.
Also, 3 main principles were mentioned during the discussion: decriminalization, but not legalization, humanistic attitude, strict punishment for the distributor.
“Thank you for this initiative. The meeting was very informative. I hope more meeting will also be planned regarding other issues in the future. I would be glad to be involved as a student,” said the Tbilisi State University Student, Irina Gvasalia.
