BuroHappold to Create Anaklia City Master Plan

On 23 February, Anaklia City presented the Anaklia Visionary Master Planning and Development Plan study, which will be conducted by a leading British company BuroHappold Engineering, the winner of an international tender.
Mamuka Khazaradze, the founder of Anaklia City, opened a presentation which was attended by the Government officials, diplomats, businessmen and media representatives.
Khazaradze talked about the implemented work so far and noted that negotiations are being held with many international organizations, such as USAID.
Anaklia City’s Executive Director, Keti Bochorishvili noted that the goal is for Anaklia to become the platform for international organizations and in order to attract these organizations, elaborating best regulations is of utmost importance.
“To become a regional landmark, Anaklia has to rely on the two pillars: the cutting-edge technologies and green economy. Anaklia is going to have an industrial park, etc. We are glad to have an opportunity to work with one of the world’s key companies. The concept is to be developed within 6 months during which, Anaklia City will be discussing the concept at occasional meetings with various target groups,” Keti Bochorishvili stated.
During the presentation, BuroHappold Engineering representatives spoke about their experience - the implemented projects. They have held meetings with several Government agencies, including the Ministries of Finance and Economy.
On February 22, the Company experts visited Anaklia for preliminary investigation. They examined the territory and the Anaklia port construction sites.
“We had the unique chance to convince ourselves about the pace and the magnitude of this remarkable project here and we think it will greatly contribute to the regional development and to the nation’s overall economic development,” Robert Winterhager, Group Director Cities at BuroHappold Engineering said.
The agreement between the Anaklia Development Consortium and British Company BuroHappold Engineering was signed, according to which, BuroHappold Engineering will prepare economic analysis, the feasibility study and the master plan of the Anaklia City.
Anaklia will soon turn into an economic and business hub in the region with eco-friendly concepts.
BuroHappold Engineering, which has won an international tender among 20 companies competed, is a British professional services firm providing engineering consultancy, design, planning, project management and consulting services for all aspects of buildings, infrastructure and the environment.
The company has implemented over 600 projects, such as the sea port complex in Mumbai, London’s Hyde Park, the Technological University in California, etc.
“Anaklia City” started working on developing the city and special economic zone in June 2017. The company has established relations with more than 100 international companies throughout this period.
