“Promotion of Teacher’s Development in Pankisi Gorge”

The award ceremony of the project - “Promotion of Teacher’s Development in Pankisi Gorge” was held in Duisi village, at Roddy Scott Foundation on March 6.
From June 2017, a project of professional development of teachers takes place in Pankisi Gorge with the support of British Embassy and British Council. The project partners are the Ministry of Education and Science, Roddy Scott Foundation and Kakheti Regional Development Foundation.
The project is based on the principles of continuous and effective professional development. English language teachers working in Pankisi have been working on improving their personal and professional skills, knowledge and teaching. These processes demanded a lot of changes from teachers, including implementing new methods of research and finding ways to solve various problems.
The activities included workshops, practical seminars, training courses, online cooperation and observations. All of the teachers successfully completed online course.
At the concluding event, the students, participating in the project had a chance to make a presentation on the subject "I have a dream" about important issues of the future and equal opportunities. The winning students were awarded with prizes.
The Roddy Scott Foundation is a charity set up in the name of Roddy Scott, a 31 year old journalist killed in 2002 while crossing the Georgian-Russian border in the process of filming Chechen fighters based in the Pankisi Gorge. His parents Robin and Stina Scott were inspired by the tragedy to help the local population better their prospects, and set about establishing an out of hours school for English language medium.
Currently the Roddy Scott Foundation gives English and computer classes to over 200 children, aged 10-16, in 5 villages of the valley. All of the teachers are local Chechens with degrees in English and teacher training and experience.
The British Council is the United Kingdom's international organization for cultural relations and educational opportunities.
By providing educational opportunities to Georgians in English for individual and professional development, and administer examinations and tests from the UK, British Council strengthens ties between Georgia and the United Kingdom in the Arts, English, Higher Education and Society.
