More Couples Divorce than Marry in Georgia

The latest figures by the Georgian National Statistics Office says that the number of marriages last year decreased by 5.6 percent compared to 2016, while 7.2 percent more couples divorced in 2017 than in 2016.
The average age for marriage for women 27 and 30- for men.
Based on the latest data, 23,684 marriages were registered in Georgia in 2017:
6,984 marriages were registered in Tbilisi.
2,548 in Adjara region, in the country’s west.
647 in Guria, in the west of the country.
3,850 in Imereti region, in the west of the country.
1,744 in Kakheti region, in the country’s east.
475 in Mtskheta-Mtianeti, in the east of the country.
211 in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, in the west of the country.
2,101 in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, in the country’s west.
993 in Samtskhe-Javakheti, in the country’s east.
2,617 in Kvemo Kartli, in the country’s east.
1,514 in Shida Kartli, in the country’s east.
The number of divorces amounted to 10,222 in 2017.
