(TBILISI) - The Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze has stated that the US, UK and France strike on Syria on Saturday, in the wake of the suspected deadly chemical attack on the Syrian town of Douma on April 7, was a “needed and a reasonable response.”
“Missile strikes by the US, UK, France on targets associated with the chemical weapons capabilities of Syria is an appropriate and needed response to Syria’s chemical attack against civilian population. Use of chemical weapons is unacceptable and those responsible must be held accountable”, Janelidze tweeted on Saturday.
US President Donald Trump stated shortly after the attack that the strike was “perfectly executed" and announced that the “mission is accomplished".
The US, UK and France attacked three government sites, targeting what they said were chemical weapons facilities.
More than 100 missiles struck in response to a deadly chemical attack on Douma, killing at least 70 people.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the western countries hit Syria although neither Russian military experts, nor local residents confirmed the fact of a chemical attack.
Putin has condemned the US-led missile strikes, which "aggravate humanitarian catastrophe, inflict suffering on civilian population and connive at terrorism."
All NATO Allies expressed their full support for the strike which was intended to degrade the Syrian regime’s chemical weapons capability, and to deter further chemical weapon attacks against the people of Syria, the NATO official webpage reads.
“NATO strongly condemns the repeated use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime. Chemical weapons cannot be used with impunity,” NATO added.
