Rike-Narikala cableway temporarily stops for maintenance

Tbilisi Transport Company announced on Monday that the Rike-Narikala cableway will pause due to maintenance works from April 16 to April 30.

The scheduled maintenance work will be carried out in accordance with the regulations of the operation instructions and the relevant European norms.

Italian Company “Leitner” will provide specialists and experts for the work.

For the safety reasons, the ropeway systematically undergoes technical inspection, which takes place after 22,500 hours of operation.

The length of the Rike-Narikala cableway is 500 meters and it connects Rike Park with Narikala Fortress.

Tbilisi City Hall refuses to increase salaries for metro drivers

Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze said on Monday that the pay rise for metro drivers is not on the agenda, as “they have enough salaries”.

"We do not plan to increase salaries for metro drivers because they have enough salaries - about 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500 GEL. There are a number of directions, where in terms of the salaries, serious problems arise, such as kindergartens,” said Kaladze.

On April 2, metro drivers of Tbilisi Transport Company held a warning demonstration demanding increase of hourly wage/pay rise (from the existing 7 GEL to raise the amount up to 10 GEL).

The Chairman of the trade union “Unity 2013” noted that the demonstration is the continuation of the process, which began in 2016. During that period they were demanding three changes, two of which were satisfied and the situation did not change in respect of hourly pay rise.
