PM Says Georgian Media Focuses on Negative

The Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, who is taking part in the Georgian Dream ruling party’s regional meetings prior to the presidential elections in October, says that the Georgian media is mostly focused on broadcasting negative news than positive.
"Unfortunately, the media is always focused on negative things. However, if we look at what has been done, I can say that all of us can be proud of what we have done,” Kvirikashvili stated about the activities of the Georgian Dream ruling party since it came into power in 2012.
In the context, the PM spoke about the planned projects in Imereti.
He stated that 322 million GEL has been spent on infrastructure projects in the region over the last two years.
Focusing on the party and its role, the PM stated that Georgian Dream “will not forget the contribution of the people, who joined the party from its very first days.”
“The contribution of the people who made the decision to stand by the party and its leader Bidzina Ivanishvili in the most difficult time to change the reality in the country are very important. The party should always be in the process of renewal, but it does not mean that we will forget the contribution of the people who were in the Georgian Dream from the very first day," Kvirikashvili said.
The opposition responded that the Georgian media and especially the opposition-minded Rustavi 2 private broadcaster, always tells the truth and the government is “irritated by the existence of such channels.”
The United National Movement and the European Georgia parliamentary minority claim that the ruling party is taking steps to “silence the channels which are transparent and unbiased in their broadcasting.”
They stated that the ownership dispute around Rustavi 2 and appointing the government-affiliated Vasil Maglaperidze as the new head of the Georgian Public Broadcaster speaks about the intentions.
