European Parliament MEP & Georgia Friendship Group met with TSU students

Within the frames of Europe Day 2018, the meeting with students of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) took place on May 11.
The Head of Speaker’s Cabinet, Nikoloz Samkharadze and the European Parliament & Georgia Friendship Group visiting Georgia met the students at TSU.
During the meeting with the students, various important issues related to Georgia-EU were underscored.
Among them were Georgia's foreign priorities and policy, European integration process, European Perspective, EU approaches and opinions, etc.
Deputy Rector of TSU, Alexander Tsiskaridze opened the event and welcomed the guests.
"Today your host is the Tbilisi State University, which is 100 years old and is an outstanding leader of the region. It is the first university in the Caucasus, which laid the foundation for the European Georgian-language educational institution,” said Tsiskaridze.
He noted that recently the Georgia Friendship Group has been created in the European Parliament, which is governed by all the major political groups in the European Parliament and presented the co-chairs of the Friendship Group visiting TSU.
Clare Moody, member of a group of Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament and Michael Gahler, group of European People's party (Christian Democrats) were among the guests.
Gahler noted that they already visited Gori and Batumi and met with the students there.
While discussing the EU integration process, he noted that Georgia has a long way, but the process has begun, which is of utmost importance.
"The first steps have already been made. You should be actively involved in the country's politics and we will eventually meet each other in Europe," said Gahler while addressing the students.
Moody stated that in order to reaffirm their support of the country's territorial integrity, they visited occupational line within the frames of their visit to Georgia.
She noted that the meeting with the students was important and useful.
“Politicians always benefit from meeting with young people. This meeting is important because we will have a better chance to understand what young people think about the European Parliament, in general, about Europe. We talked about the issues that will help us,” stated Moody.
Students had a chance to participate in discussions and ask questions.
The aim of Europe day in Georgia is to raise the people’s awareness about the Georgia-EU relations.
A range of activities are being held for the event- meetings in the regions, trainings for local administration employees, information meetings at schools and municipalities, holding exhibitions and debates.
The events dedicated to Europe Day 2018 will last until May 22, organised by the Information Centre on NATO, the EU Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the EU representatives in Georgia.
