The Georgian Prime Min¬ister Giorgi Kvirikash¬vili has invited his Armenian counterpart Nikol Pashinyan to Georgia.
Kvirikashvili and Pashinyan had a phone call on Friday, when the Georgian PM con¬gratulated his counterpart on election on the post and emphasized the traditional friendly relations between the two countries, the Georgian PM’s press office stated.
“The Armenian PM said that Georgia-Armenia relations should develop independently from geopolitical influences and that the two countries can en¬hance economic relations,” the press office statement reads.
Before the phone call Kvirikashvili tweeted and wished Pashinyan“all the best in his future endeavors.”
“Georgia firmly supports and stands by brotherly Armenia. I believe strong ties and friend-ship between our countries will deepen,” Kvirikashvili tweeted.
Responding to the kind wishes Pashinyan invited Kvirikashvili to Armenia and hoped that he will receive the same invitation from Georgia.
“Of course, I will visit Geor¬gia as soon as possible. I also in¬vite Prime Minister of Georgia to Armenia,” Pashinyan told the Georgian Public Broad¬caster.
The Armenian parliament elected opposition figure and protest leader Pashinyan as the new prime minister on May 8, after weeks of mass protests against the ruling party.
It was the second attempt for Pashinyan to get elected as PM after the ruling Repub¬lican Party blocked his first bid on May 1, despite initially promising not to hinder the election.
Following the ruling party’s decision not to vote for Pashin¬yan the first time, even larger rallies broke out which eventu¬ally convinced the Republican Party to cooperate.
Pashinyan paid his first of¬ficial visit to Karabakh.
