Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has launched an investigation into the threats and insults to Non-Governmental organization White Noise Movement activist Ana Subeliani, who was dancing on April 9 heroes memorial during the May 12-13 protest rallies, held against the police raids in Tbilisi clubs.
Subeliani stated that the society harshly criticizes and threatens her because she “insulted” the Heroes’ Memorial located at the old building of the parliament on Rustaveli Avenue.
The investigation was launched under the article 151 which implies threats.
Subeliani says she addressed the police after the received comments and messages of threats on social networks about her and also her 8 year old child.
“I do not feel safe. The threats are about my 8 year old child. I am not going to stay at home or stop going out but I feel I am in danger,” Subeliani told Rustavi 2 a few days ago, adding the MIA has to ensure her safety.
She stated her dance was the demonstration of freedom and she is not going to apologize.
“Yes, I was dancing on the monument dedicated to those who fought for the freedom. For me it was an act of freedom. I cannot even imagine that it would insult anyone,” she explained.
Subeliani says the majority of the society sees insult in everything, adding this is “disgusting.”
“We held those protest rallies to share our love with the others and make our country better,” she said.
May 12-13 protest rallies were held by NGOs, clubbers and the youth, who protested against the police raids in nightclubs and the exiting drug policy.
