11,741 Georgian Pupils Stopped Going to School in 2016-2017

11,741 Georgian pupils quit school in 2016-2017, out of the 8300 did not continue studying in high school (grades 10-12) while 3441 did not finish a basic level (grades 7-9).
The IPN released the information from the data of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Georgia.
According to the official data, the majority of students who gave up schooling are from Tbilisi. In particular, 2168 pupils stopped studying at the secondary level and 1348 pupils before the end of the primary level.
As for the regions, 1835 pupils did not continue going to high school in Kvemo Kartli, and 828 pupils did not complete the primary level there. 891 students stopped studying at the secondary level in Kakheti and 327 pupils before the end of the fundamental level.
In addition, 64 schoolchildren left schools at the secondary level in breakaway Abkhazia, 764 in Adjara, 270 in Guria, Imereti - 738, in Mtskheta-Mtianeti -181, Racha-Lechkhumi Kvemo Svaneti - 37, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti - 636, Samtskhe-Javakheti - 312, and Shida Kartli - 404 pupils stopped going to school.
As for the primary level, it was not completed by 18 students in Abkhazia, Adjara - 226, Guria -36, Imereti - 235, Mtskheta-Mtianeti 32, Racha-Lechkhumi Kvemo Svaneti - 2, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti - 128, Samtskhe-Javakheti – 156 and Shida Kartli - 105 pupils did not complete the necessary level of studies.
As for the statistics of the previous years, 7880 schoolchildren left schools in Tbilisi and regions at the secondary level in the 2015-2016 academic year and 3632 pupils before the end of the primary level. In 2014-2015, 8672 schoolchildren left school in Georgia at the secondary level and 3635 pupils before the end of the primary level.
In the 2013-14 academic year,10,287 pupils left and the end of the base cycle left - 3770.
In the 2012-13 academic year, 9584 students left school at the secondary level and 3255 before the end of the primary level. As for the 2011-2012 academic year, 11,778 schoolchildren in Tbilisi schools and regions stopped studying at the secondary level, and 1845 pupils left school before the end of the primary education level.
As for the reasons of giving up schools, in 2016-2017, at the primary level 96 school children did not continue studying because of illness, and at the secondary level - 78 pupils. In the same academic year, 38 students did not continue studying at the primary level because of death. Due to early marriage, 14 students did not complete the primary level, and 243 students gave up studies at the secondary level.
1618 students stopped going to the basic education level in 2016-2017 because their families moved abroad. The number of students at the secondary level, who stopped studying due to the same reason, is 863.
In the beginning of the 2016-2017 academic year, there were 564,729 pupils in Tbilisi and the regions. In 2017-2018, 575,181 students were enrolled in Tbilisi and regional schools.
