“Hybrid Tbilisi” – Exhibition in Frankfurt

Every year Frankfurter Buchmesse welcomes a different country as its Guest of Honor. The guest country presents its literature and culture at the fair in Frankfurt, as well as many other locations throughout the country, and gives Frankfurter Buchmesse a new face each year.
Various exhibitions were organized in order to celebrate Georgia as Guest of Honor of the Frankfurt Book Fair 2018.
The exhibition entitled "Hybrid Tbilisi" opened on September 28 at German Architecture Museum, Frankfurt, Germany.
The aim of the exhibition is the systematic representation of existing structures and the analysis of traditional and artificially created spaces; displaying the values and lifestyle of the people living in Tbilisi, that led to the contemporary architectural image which is portrayed in the exhibition "Hybrid Tbilisi".
In the beginning of the 21st century, Georgia has reappeared on the European cultural map. The development of Georgian architecture had many interruptions, delays, and failures which make the historical and architectural heritage even more interesting.
The exhibition is curated by Irina Kurtishvili and Cologne & Peter Cachole Schmal, Director (German Architecture Museum, DAM).
“Picture Languages. Photographic Art from Georgia” is among other exhibitions, which opened on September 21 at Frankfurt Fotografie Forum. The exhibition imparts diverse impressions from the history and modern daily life in Georgia – and it introduces artistic positions of its relatively unknown photography scene.
The events were organized in cooperation with the National Book Center in Georgia, Ministry of Culture And Monument Protections Of Georgia, Creative Georgia, etc.
Creative Georgia is a LEPL (Legal Entity of Public Law) created under the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, the fields of work of which are the commercialization of creative industries sector and supporting its sustainable development.
The German Architecture Museum is located on the Museumsufer in Frankfurt, Germany. The museum organizes several temporary exhibitions every year, as well as conferences, symposia and lectures. It has a collection of ca. 180,000 architectural drawings and 600 models, including works by modern and contemporary classics like Erich Mendelsohn, Mies van der Rohe, Archigram and Frank O. Gehry.
