Mogherini: Eastern Partnership’ is Main Component of the EU Foreign Policy

Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy says that the Eastern Partnership’ is the main component of the EU foreign policy amid the session of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg yesterday.
The Eastern Partnership is an initiative of the European External Action Service of the European Union (EU) governing its relationship with the post-Soviet stated of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine, intended to provide an opportunity for discussions of trade, economic strategy, travel agreements, and other issues between the EU and its Eastern European neighbours.
EaP was initiated by Poland and a subsequent proposal was prepared in cooperation with Sweden.
“Eastern Partnership is the main component of the EU foreign policy. This ministerial is an opportunity to discuss not only the partnership with the Eastern Partnership but also our common work with them,” Mogherini said.
At the ministerial, diplomats will approve the mechanism of imposition new sanctions for the use of chemical weapons and will hold talks with Eastern Partners.
Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani took part in the ministerial.
