Humanitarian Aid provided by Turkey

Global Humanitarian Assistance report published in 2018 shows that Turkey’s humanitarian aid tops the world.
Turkey’s humanitarian assistance has significantly increased in recent years, mainly in response to the ongoing crisis in Syria.
In 2017, Turkey allocated 8.07 billion dollars for the above-mentioned purposes.
Turkey is also in the 6th place in terms of the implementation of the welfare oriented assistance projects.
Turkey also ranks first when the ratio of official humanitarian assistance to national income is taken into account.
Based on the situation in Syria, the new campaign was launched in order to help hundreds of thousands living in Turkey or on the other side of the border, which is coordinated by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency of Turkey (AFAD).
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), together with the Turkish Red Crescent, is implementing various projects focusing on construction of houses, hospitals, providing with potable water and products.
Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs (TDV) carries out educational, economic, healthcare and agricultural projects and activities in the region in order to help those injured due to the conflict in Syria.
Turkey’s humanitarian assistance efforts, which was initiated in the mid-1980s by providing food aid, have gained a remarkable impetus in the last decade, expanded to many regions across the world and diversified in terms of quantity and quality covering a wide range of activities.
Turkish NGOs including Turkish Red Crescent Society have also been very active in conducting humanitarian operations over the world.
In 2016, Turkey’s humanitarian assistance reached 5.7 billion US Dollars.
