National Agency of Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia presented and handed eight fragments of Satkhi Church to the Georgian National Museum on November 6.
These fragments were revealed during archaeological excavations on the monastery complex.
The writings on the fragments clarified the chronology and many dates.
The byzantine (1171) indicates the fragment, and finally specifies the chronology of the whole churches of Kvemo Kartli and their pillars.
The text on the fragment was read by the art expert - Tamaz Gogoladze, while the date indicated was specified and distinguished by Temur Jojua.
Constructed in X-XI centuries, Satkhi Church contains a few layers of construction from different epochs. With rich decorations and writings, fragments of wall painting have been preserved.
It is located 25 kilometers from Bolnisi.
The full scale rehabilitation process of the Satkhi Monastery Complex is underway jointly with the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia and members of Sakdrisi Committee for Cultural Heritage.
