Today the European Union will sign deals with Georgia which will provide up to Euro231 million support for Georgian business, economic and education fields.
The agreements will be signed during the “new, unique format of meeting” between Georgian and EU top officials in Brussels.
Georgian delegation headed by Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze left for Brussels late on Monday.
“We have never been so close to European structures. Accordingly, this is a historic chance and we should use it, – Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze said at Tbilisi airport before leaving.
“This is a very important visit. This format was created specifically for Georgia as for the most successful country on the path of European integration. We will have meetings with Donald Tusk, President of the European Council and Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission. This is a specially designed format for Georgia in order to enable us to set new ways and goals together with our European partners for bringing Georgia closer to Europe,” Bakhtadze said.
He stated that Georgia and EU representatives will have thematic discussions about how to create new opportunities and perspectives in different directions, such as economics, agriculture, education and other areas.
“We have specific proposals to introduce to our European partners about how to make our integration process more efficient and get more concrete results for our citizens. In addition, some very important initiatives are being discussed at the level of the European Commission and I hope these initiatives will be successful,” Bakhtadze said.
Establishment of yet another high-level format of bilateral cooperation between Georgia and the European Union has been agreed in the beginning of this year.
The new format considers the development of even stronger sectoral cooperation between Georgia and the EU.
