On November 21, Mayor of the Capital Kakha Kaladze spoke about the planned changes in Tbilisi transportation scheme.
As Kakha Kaladze said, Tbilisi soon will have a new scheme of public transport and the city will have a full picture of routes- how many additional buses will be needed, how it should be in connection with the subway, how mini-buses will be connected with other public transports, etc.
The Mayor also mentioned the rehabilitation of Kostava and Shartava streets in the city center where special lines for buses were arranged.
"Yesterday we started drawing bus lines on both sides of the roads, which will allow daily 150,000 passengers of public transport to travel on these streets smoothly and comfortably.
“Tbilisi City Hall has decided to draw the bus lines in both directions with the recommendation of the French company "Sistra" with international experience, which works on a new transportation scheme of Tbilisi,” said Kaladze.
The mayor also talked about the ongoing and planned works regarding the infrastructural changes in Tbilisi.
As Kaladze mentioned Kostava and Shartava Streets are fully rehabilitated and modernized, also other streets in the surrounding. The works were done by City Hall contractor companies – “Black Sea Group” and “NCC” and around GEL 7 million from Tbilisi budget was spent.
Kaladze also underlined that infrastructural changes on those streets have not been finished yet. It was decided to use part of pathway spaces for planting trees in some cases.
“We planted 200 plants, and on the basis of hydroponic gardening we have planted grass on 1600 square meter,” the mayor explained.
“A new traffic scheme on rehabilitated streets has been developed by the City Transport Department along with the experts of British company "Mott MacDonald”.
“We should continue to work on rehabilitation of other streets using such a high standard and this should be a complex issue. Of course, building roads can be done soon, but it's a ground-based and underground infrastructure that will be tailored to the comfort of the population," - said Kaladze.
