On December 13, 2018, “Anaklia Development Consortium” and “Anaklia City” organized the summary presentation on the first year construction works of Anaklia Deep Sea Port and special economic zone.
The presentation was attended by public and private sector, business community representatives or individuals interested in the progress of this centenary project. Anaklia Port and Anaklia City management introduced the audience with the achievements gained throughout the year and future construction plans.
“Anaklia Port is very important for our country. Boldly, we can talk about the support from our government, as well as big international financial institutions and influential political circles, proving once again regional, as well as global importance of Anaklia Deep Sea Port” – said co-founder of Anaklia project Badri Japaridze.
“Georgia is the only country in the black sea region, which doesn’t have the deep sea port and 75% of vessels crossing the black sea cannot enter Georgia as it doesn’t have an appropriate infrastructure. Anaklia Deep Sea Port provides competitiveness of our corridor and our country will be able to maximize the use of its economic value thanks to the geographic location”, - underlined the General Director of “Anaklia Development Consortium” Levan Akhvlediani.
“Anaklia Special economic zone will be the place, where Georgian and international companies will have the opportunity to allocate their enterprises, storages and another type of industrial infrastructure. The zone will be completely integrated with sea, road and railway infrastructure; it will also have the status of special economic zone and tax benefits. There will be ready-made industrial infrastructure for the companies: roads, electricity, gas, water, canalization system, high standard of security and fire protection systems – added the executive director of “Anaklia City” Keti Bochorishvili.
Plans for 2019 were also discussed during the presentation. A tender will be finalized in January, where the leading international companies are taking part and soon the general contractor of Anaklia Port will be announced.
We would like to remind you that the construction works at Anaklia Deep Sea Port have started on September 16, 2018. At present, the first stage of large-scale maritime construction works have been finished and one of the most advanced dredging vessels, the Athena, has already performed the reclamation of 5.0 million cubic meters of sand from the sea at Anaklia port and brought dredged material to the port area. Together with reclamation, the installation of the newest technology dredging system has been implemented and the territory of the port is ready to be used for the following maritime and ground works. The investment of the first phase counts 600 million USD in total and it considers employing 1500 people at the port.
The opening of the first phase and receiving of the first vessels are planned for the end of 2020.
