Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze says that the Georgian land registration reform is one of the most successful which can be shared with interested foreign states.
He claims that since 2016 more than 600,000 landowners have registered their properties thanks to the simplified and cheap procedures offered by the government.
He says that the reform is particularly interesting as Georgia used the Blockchain innovation technology to store the data.
“More than 600, 000 citizens have legalized land plots since August 1 of 2016,” Bakhtadze said while presenting the Land Registration Interim Report.
He stated that a total of 300, 000 hectares of land plots have been registered.
“The registration of lands was one of the difficult problems for our citizens and the government started taking active steps to solve this issue. As a result of the reform, the procedures for registration of lands have been significantly simplified and this service has become available to people,” he said.
Bakhtadze claimed that Georgia was the first which launched the use of revolutionary Blockchain technology in the public sector and the land registration became the pilot project where the technology was used.
Blockchain is the technology which ensures the highest protection of the data saved in its systems, Bakhtadze says.
“It is very important for us to use innovative technologies in our reforms. The change, erase, re-draft of the illegal usage of the data stored in the Blockchain systems are impossible,” Bakhtadze said.
He called upon private owners to officially register their lands.
Amendments to the law offered by the Georgian Justice Ministry in 2016 included:
Development of a unified standard for surveying drawings;
The state will help private owners to procure ownership documents;
The state will help owners to resolve land disputes.
