Play dedicated to 100th anniversary of Pirosmani's death

Valerian Gunia Georgian State Drama Theatre, Poti held a touring performance of “Pirosmani” in Tbilisi, at Silk Factory Theater. The performance was directed by theater prize "Duruji - 2018" winner Elene Matskhonashvili.
The life story of the exceptional Georgian artist Niko Pirosmani, has been revived in a puppet performance.
The play was dedicated to 100th anniversary of Pirosmani's death.
The project was implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport. The premiere was held in Poti on November 22, 2018.
Georgian primitivist painter Niko Pirosmani (Nikolay Pirosmanashvili) lived in the period from 1862 to 1918. He lived in poverty and often painted in exchange for food. Pirosmani became a celebrated painter only after his death.
Three dolls and four actors described the life and work of the famous artist Niko Pirosmanashvili with a minimum amount of words, illustrated by the music and artist's paintings. Dolls created for the performance were innovative and their expressive skills are close to human capabilities. Performance "Pirosmani", along with the development of the puppet industry, aims to popularize Georgian artists and Georgian culture.
Georgian State Drama Theatre named after Valerian Gunia, located in the center of the third largest in Georgian port city of Poti, is named after the famous Georgian film director, playwright, critic, actor Valerian Gunia.
