By 2022, Georgia will spend 6% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on education, which means that the funding for the education sector will increase annually and will reach maximum by 2022.
The statement was made by the Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze at the National Library of Georgia while presenting the new initiative Education – Way to Freedom.
Prime Minister claimed that together with Finland, Norway, Denmark and Singapore, Georgia will become the leading country in the world, the main priority of which will be the education and development of human capital.
According to him, this means that preschool and general education will reach the European level, and the teacher’s profession will be one of the highest paid jobs in Georgia.
Bakhtadze reminded that last year, at the Ikalto Academy, a large-scale education reform for the years 2019-2022 was announced.
“This reform is carried out in all five directions, such as pre-school education, secondary education, vocational education, higher education and, of course, science. We announced that we are starting to mobilize resources for the implementation of this large project that has already begun,” he said.
The PM said that the initiative Education – way to Freedom is the boldest and the most large-scale educational initiative of the government.
“The state will take an unprecedented commitment to annually spend 6% of our national wealth, i.e., a quarter of the current budget, on full transformation of the education system and foundation of a distinguished and exemplary school of Georgian education", he said.
In addition, the PM said investments in the education sector, will also increase the investments by the private sector in this direction, which means that the education sector will become the dominant sector of our economy and its share will reach 10-11%.
According to Bakhtadze, Georgia has two enemies: occupation and poverty.
“The occupation line and economic hardship hamper our full development and it is impossible to put up with this. It is the main goal of our life to overcome this problem,” he stressed.
