1,800 Square Meters of Warehouse Burnt in Tbilisi, One Injured, Puppies Saved

A storehouse of electric equipment was burnt in the Didi Digomi district in Tbilisi late on March 17.

Twenty-three brigades of firefighters have been trying to extinguish fire several hours.

The State Emergency Service employees say that more than 1,800 square meters have been burnt.

One man suffering from intoxication and fractures of a shinbone was taken to the hospital and is under the treatment by medical staff;

Doctors say that his life is not at risk.

Three possible reasons for the fire have been named: negligence, outdated wiring and the violation of safety regulations.

Firefighters rescued two puppies from the blazing building.

The Georgian Health and Labour Ministry inspected more than 84 companies last year and revealed safety-related and other types of violations in 81 of them.

The shortcomings were identified for:

• Primary medical care.
• Identification of alcohol, drugs or psychotropic substances at work.
• Individual safety devices.
• Influence of the company’s work on the environment.
• Training and instructions for staff.
• Safety control mechanisms.
• Emergency situation plans and others.
