A member of the Alliance of Patriot’s Parliamentary Minority Emzar Kvitsiani believes that the words sexual orientation and gender equality must be removed from the Georgian law as the words “stand against moral values”.
Parliament discussed his initiative, presented as a bill by a fellow MP Zviad Tomaradze, late on Tuesday.
Kvitsiani addressed legislators and said that they should support the bill to protect Georgian families, national and Christian values.
He cited Georgian Patriarch Ilia II by saying that “legalizing of immorality is a big sin.”
A member of the Georgian Dream ruling party, Vice Parliament Speaker Tamar Chugoshvili responded to Kvitsiani and said that “MP must not make such statements from the parliamentary tribune.”
“Your initiative is fully discriminative,” Chugoshvili said and switched off Kvitsiani’s microphone.
The Alliance of Patriots grilled Chugoshvili for her statement and behavior concerning the microphone and said that they will sue her in the Council of Ethics of Parliament.
Parliament did not support the bill.
Alliance of Patriots entered parliament with six MPs in 2016.
