Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC), which is an independent regulatory authority in Georgia, periodically publishes statistic data about broadcasting and electronic communications sectors.
Even though watching the news on TV has become a less popular activity recently, in 2018, compared to 2017, the amount of population watching news programs via rewind mode has increased by 24%.
Silk TV has been offering convenient features: rewind, pause, note, slow down, favorite list, reminder, etc. It is also possible to track events on different channels simultaneously, using rewinding and pausing function.
In 2017, women over 18 years spent 40% of the time spent watching television series, which is about 1 hour and 10 minutes a day. But it is worth mentioning that this particular data is decreasing yearly.
As for mobile data consumption and other services connected to mobile networks: as of January 2019, one subscriber consumes 2.36 GB of mobile Internet per month, while uses 166 minutes of phone calling time.
Compared to January 2018, 18 million less text messages were sent in January 2019, which is most likely caused by the usage of various mobile applications, such as Messenger, WhatsApp, Viber, etc.
One person performs about 100 mobile calls per month.
The Commission, formed on July 1, 2000, is responsible for the broadcasting and electronic communications sectors. The Commission is a collegial administrative body. It regulates TV broadcasting, Radio broadcasting, fixed/mobile telephone and internet services.
The Commission's source of income is a regulation fee paid by authorized entities and license holders in broadcasting and electronic communications sectors.
It is worth mentioning that Georgia ranked 9th in Europe and 14th in the world in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) 2018, observed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
