Adult Education Center will open in Kharagauli on April 24 with the support of the Imereti Regional Governor's Administration and the City Hall of Kharagauli Municipality, organized and financed by the German International Cooperation Institute (DVV International).
The main concept of the center is - "Lifelong Learning".
The main direction of the Center's activities is to develop and strengthen the adult education field and promote the development of professional staff.
The new education center will give interested individuals the opportunity to improve their qualifications and become competitive in the labor market in different directions.
Adult education is not recognized in Georgia as an independent education sector and does not receive any government support. Many measures in Georgia are therefore geared particularly on educating the general public and policy-makers about the role and importance of adult learning.
10 Centers of Adult Education have been founded since 2006 in Akhaltsikhe and Akhalkalaki (Samtskhe-Javakheti), Jvari and Senaki (Samegrelo), Keda (Adjara), Chokhatauri (Guria), Leliani (Kakheti), Koda and Shaumiani (Kvemo Kartli), Ambrolauri (Racha).
The 11th Adult Education Center will allow beneficiaries to take education courses for free and participate in various social, cultural and civic activities.
More than 7,000 beneficiaries participate in centers’ activities annually, out of which 8-11% becomes employed. Since 2006 up to 100.000 beneficiaries have benefited from the Adult Education Centers, including 30,000 IDPs and 15.000 representatives of ethnic and religious minorities.
In 2002, DVV International opened its country office in Georgia, which has now become one of the key players in adult education in the country.
The main focus of works includes the construction of adult education centers: Along with its partner organizations, DVV International has built nine adult education centers on the German model in different regions of the country, primarily to respond to the needs of IDPs. They offer, among other things, courses in the realm of basic education and vocational training. For the adult population in these regions, the centers often provide the only chance for further education.
DVV International has been working together with the Georgian Ministry of Education and Science in the field of vocational training (training of teachers, the establishment of a vocational guidance system).
