Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili’s official Twitter account shared the post of the United States President Donald Trump where he mocks former Democrat US Vice President Joe Biden, who is taking part in the Presidential elections 2020.
The shared post was available on Zurabishvili’s Twitter for about an hour on April 29 and at 20:15 it was deleted.
“Sleepy Joe Biden is having his first rally in the Great State of Pennsylvania. He obviously doesn’t know that Pennsylvania is having one of the best economic years in its history, with lowest unemployment EVER, a now thriving Steel Industry (that was dead) & great future!” Trump’s post reads.
Even though the retweeted post stayed on Zurabishvili’s account for an hour, it was followed by criticism from the opposition, claiming the step would damage Georgia’s image on the international arena.
Leader of the opposition European Georgia, party David Bakradze, stressed Zurabishvili damaged the interests of Georgia after she shared the US President Donald Trump’s tweet.
“Development of the strategic partnership is and will be our main task in connection with the US, regardless of which party is presented in the White House and in the majority of Congress. Therefore, our main task is to have good relations with both parties - with Republicans and Democrats,” Bakradze stressed.
He explained that it is totally wrong to interfere in the internal politics of the US.
“It is very regrettable that by doing it Mrs. Zurabishvili continues the "successful" tradition of damaging Georgia's image and interests abroad," he added.
The Presidential Administration made an explanation over the issue.
Press-Speaker Khatia Moistsrapishvili said at a special briefing on Tuesday that the primary version why the post was retweeted was related to technical misconduct made by the Social Network Management Manager, but she did not exclude the possibility that the account became the target of the cyber-attack.
“The case will be investigated. Also, several days ago, a cyber-attack was carried out on the social account of one of our employees and the investigation was also launched into this case,” Moistsrapishvili explained.
Trump and Biden spent Monday trolling each other on Twitter as the Democratic former vice president delivered the first major speech of his nascent presidential campaign.
Biden accused the president of being anti-labor after Trump claimed that rank-and-file union members would back his re-election bid, especially in the key state of Pennsylvania.
In return, Trump dubbing him "Sleepy Joe" saying 'He's not the brightest light bulb in the group.'
