Protesters Demand Circus without Animals

On May 5, 2019, Yuri Nikulin Circus visited Tbilisi. Some of the animal rights activists protested the inhumane treatment towards animals participating in the Circus. Despite the heavy rain, the protesters held umbrellas and signs, they protested the conditions that the animals have to live in because of the harsh methods of preparing them for the circus shows.

The protest was attended by the animal rights activists, as well as young children worried about the fate of the animals in the circus. “I have seen only one show with animals in it, but it was so shocking for me that I could not stop crying.” Said 11-year-old Nutsa.

“When I was in the circus, people would hit animals with long sticks. I don’t want to see that again” Said one of the kids at the gathering.

As the organizers said, the main problem is that people lack information regarding the situation of the animals in the circus. Most of the people think that animals are treated well, but the reality is different.

During the gathering, protesters signed the petition, saying “Because we want a progressive nation, we suggest that using animals for different kinds of shows be forbidden on the constitutional level.”
