GeoStat publishes preliminary data on animal husbandry

According to the preliminary data published by GeoStat, at the end of the first quarter of 2019, the number of bovine animals was down by 3.1 percent compared to the first quarter of 2018 and amounted to 955.4 thousand heads.
Among them, the total number of dairy cows and buffalos decreased by 4.3 percent from the same period of the previous year and equaled 454.8 thousand heads.
The total number of sheep and goats increased by 1.9 percent, and year-on-year reached 1.2 million heads, while the number of pigs equaled to 174.8 thousand heads, which is 1.9 percent less than at the same period of 2018.
The report also gives information about the production of dairy food and meat. According to the preliminary data, in the first quarter of 2019, milk production increased by 2.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 101.9 million liters.
On the other hand, meat production increased by 4.5 percent from the same period of the previous year and stood at 16.3 thousand tons. In the first quarter of 2019, egg production amounted to 159.5 million pieces, which is 1.2 percent less than in 2018.
