GeoStat reports on employment and unemployment in Georgia for the first quarter of 2019

According to the report published by GeoStat, in the 1st quarter of 2019, the unemployment rate in Georgia decreased by 1.2 percentage point compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and equaled 12.8 percent.
As the report reads, In the 1st quarter of 2019, economically active population constituted 63.8 percent of the working age population (people aged 15 and older). In comparison to the same quarter of the previous year, the economic activity rate remained the same, while the employment rate increased by 0.8 percentage point.
In urban settlements, the employment rate was increased by 2.0 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, while in rural settlements decreased by 1.1%. In urban settlements, the economic activity rate was increased by 0.6%, while in rural settlements it was decreased by 1.0 percent.
In the 1st quarter of 2019, the share of hired employees was 50.3 percent among employed persons, an increase of 0.9% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
The unemployment rate is much lower in rural than in urban settlements. In the I quarter of 2019, the unemployment rate in urban settlements was reduced by 2.6%, while in urban settlements, it increased by 0.2 percent.
According to the report, traditionally, the unemployment rate is higher for men than for women. In the 1st quarter of 2019, the indicator was 3.9 percentage point higher for men compared to the corresponding indicator for women.
In addition, the unemployment rate decreased by 1.6 percentage point for women and by 0.9 percentage point for men.
The activity rate is higher for men than for women. In the 1st quarter of 2019, the activity rate for women was 55.5 percent, and for men - 73.5. The activity rate for women was increased by 0.6 percentage point, while for men it was decreased by 0.6%.
In the 1st quarter of 2019, the employment rate for women was increased by 1.4 and by 0.2 percentage point for men compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
