Fine for traveling by bus without a ticket to be increased to GEL 20

The fine for riding public transport without a ticket will be increased from GEL 5 to 20. The Parliament of Georgia approved the change, which was proposed by the Environment Protection Committee. The changes will be made in the Code on Administrative Law Violations.

Also, the penalty tax for not paying the fine in time will be reduced from GEL 50 to 40.



Saakashvili arrived in Kyiv

Ex-president of Georgia and former governor of Odessa, Mikheil Saakashvili, arrived in Kyiv. He flew from Warsaw to Kiev after the newly-elected President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, reinstated his Ukrainian citizenship.

Mikheil Saakashvili was greeted at the Boryspil airport by dozens of his supporters.



Direct flights between Uzbekistan and Georgia to start

Direct flights between Georgia and Uzbekistan begin. The agreement was reached between the Georgian Airports Association and Uzbekistan Airways representatives.

According to the Association of Airports, Uzbekistan state airline will operate direct flights between Georgia and Uzbekistan. The first flight, Tashkent-Tbilisi-Tashkent will take off on July 16, with the Airbus A320-type aircraft.

Uzbekistan Airways operates flights to 58 destinations worldwide. Its fleet consists of 31 aircrafts at this time.



Georgian Lari hits the all-time low

On May 29, the national currency of Georgia reached the historical low. According to the exchange rate of the National Bank, on May 30, the price of one US dollar is GEL 2,7997 while one Euro costs 3,1236.

Before today, the lowest rate of GEL was observed on December 22, 2016, when the price of one USD was GEL 2,7845.



Tbilisi Chess Palace was granted the status of cultural heritage

Tbilisi Chess Palace and Alpine Club located on Kostava Street have been granted the status of tangible cultural heritage monument.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport of Georgia was ordered to publish the data on these monuments.

Tbilisi Chess Palace and Alpine Club were opened in 1973 in the Vera Park. It represents the late- modernist Soviet style of architecture. The architects of the building are Vladimer Meskhishvili and Germane Ghudushauri.
