Co-chairs react to 48th Geneva International Discussions

Co-chairs report on the 48th round of the Geneva International Discussions. According to the statement, they are concerned about the disruption of this round and call on the participants to be more constructive on all the issues.

“The Co-Chairs welcomed the participants’ commitment to the Discussions and reiterated their call for a result-oriented approach to achieve concrete progress on the core issues. However, they regretted the crossing restrictions imposed on 27 June at the Abkhaz administrative boundary line. They called for these restrictions to be lifted without delay. It was noted that these measures have negatively affected freedom of movement, especially of persons in need of medical assistance and students traveling to take exams,” reads the official statement.

The 48th round of the Geneva International Discussions was held on July 2-3. The Russian Federation left the negotiation table as soon as the issue of the return of IDPs was mentioned.

The parties have agreed to meet again in October for the next round of Discussions.
