President of Wissol Group explains the reasons for fuel price rise

President of Wissol Group, Samson "Soso" Pkhakadze explains the reasons for fuel prices changes. He named two main reasons for fuel price growth: prices increased on the international market and Georgian Lari devaluation.

"The reasons that led to the recent increase in fuel price are the increase of international prices on the international market, and secondly, the rate of national currency. We buy the product in US dollars and sell it and earn income. In order to buy another lot, we need to convert GEL and when we make a conversion with a high rate; this is adequately reflected on the increase in the prices on the local market," said Soso Pkhakadze.

As of today, 1 USD equals 2.90 GEL.

Students from Abkhazia stuck at Enguri bridge to be admitted to Georgian University without exams

According to the Ministry of Education, in 2019, university entrants who have registered at the Unified National Entrance Exams and master's exams and due to the closure of Enguri Bridge, will be able to enter the universities without exams.

The state will also ensure the maximum amount of state grant for these students. If the applicants in the first academic year fail to accumulate at least 60 credits in the universities, the decision on granting them will be nullified.

The leadership of Abkhazia closed the Enguri Bridge crossing-point connecting the region with the rest of Georgia in June. Students were facing this problem since the end of June, while the Unified National Entrance Exams were starting to take place.

According to the Ministry of Education, they are working so that the applicants living in the occupied territories will be able to pass exams without delay in the 2020-2021 academic year.
