Last week, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E. Jos Douma, hosted a reception to say farewell to his friends and colleagues he has worked with during his 4 years in Georgia.
Douma has been the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Georgia and Armenia since September 2015. Previous positions held by Douma include being Ambassador of the Netherlands to the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as to the Republic of Slovenia and others.
“We had four beautiful years in Georgia and we enjoyed them thoroughly, it was not always that easy… but so it is. Such is life in diplomacy,” said the Ambassador during his farewell speech.
Douma thanked everyone for cooperation and for being such good friends during all these years, he also thanked International Women’s Association.
As he said, he and his wife look forward to going back to their four kids and nine grandchildren in Sweet Lake City.
As stated at the farewell, Douma’s new job will be a full year assignment. According to the Ambassador, it is a very new one in the Netherlands. He will be the first Dutch special envoy on religion and belief. „My new job is in a way a continuation of one aspect of what I did in Georgia,” he said.
The Ambassador doesn’t exclude the chances of coming back to Georgia. “My new job might give me a reason to come back, but Georgia is a reason to come back as well,” said Douma.
The Messenger wishes H.E. Jos Douma and Mrs. Aleid Douma good health, prosperity and all the best in their careers.
