Georgia-Azerbaijan border delimitation commission specialists to conduct joint land surveying works

On August 19, a meeting of experts of the State Commissions on Delimitation of State Borders of Georgia and the Republic of Azerbaijan was held.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the parties discussed the progress of the delimitation process and their positions on the disagreements. Fieldwork was planned - joint surveys on unbounded sections of the border and their assessment.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, during August 19-23, the experts will jointly go through separate sections and will plan visits to the remaining disagreeable sections.

“At the last meeting of the Delimitation-Demarcation Commission between Georgia and Azerbaijan, one of the key decisions was that the expert group would continue to work directly on documentation, on the one hand, and on-site surveying, on the other. The first meeting was held today at the expert level, the experts are already working and they will continue to work for the next few days to prepare material for the next meeting of the commission. At this stage, they will go through various documentation and conduct fieldwork on the adjacent sections of the border,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia.

James Appathurai responds to the processes in Gugutiantkari via social media

NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai has responded to the illegal “borderisation” by the occupying forces in the village of Gugutiantkari. In a Facebook post, Appathurai has once again reiterated NATO’s support of Georgia’s territorial integrity.

“The Russian-backed de-facto authorities in the South Ossetian region of Georgia have resumed installing and moving the fence, at the Georgian village of Gugatiankai. This creates further hardship by cutting people off from their land and their families and friends. It is also illegal. NATO has continued to call for these activities to end and be reversed. NATO recognises Georgia with its internationally recognised borders,” writes the high-ranking NATO official.
