Minister of Economy meets with United Airlines’ representatives
Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Natia Turnava held her first meeting within her working visit to the USA with the representatives of the United Airlines in Chicago.
Presentation on significance of launching the direct flights between Georgia and the USA was introduced at the meeting highlighting the profitability of such flights since Georgia is the logistic hub in the region and this function will be further strengthened following the implementation of the projects supported by the Government.
“We have provided detailed information on the benefits that our region, and especially Georgia, can offer them in case of launching direct flights. We are now moving to the technical stage of studying the issue when the US side will conduct a survey,” – Natia Turnava, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development said. The Minister noted that the meeting brought positive outcomes.
The US side confirmed their positive attitude towards the activities of the Georgian Government in the US media space, which implies raising awareness of Georgia as an attractive tourist destination. As it was noted, the effectiveness of such advertisement activities would be one of the decisive factors for the US airline to make a final decision. “It is important that Georgia’s recognition is high so that there are enough passengers to start flights between the two countries,” – Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Head of the National Tourism Administration stated.
“It was also highlighted at the meeting that citizens of neighboring countries that have no direct flight to the US themselves, will also be able to use direct flights from Georgia. Therefore, Georgia will serve as a transit country,” – Giorgi Chogovadze, the Head of the Georgian Airports Association commented.
The next meeting of the Georgian delegation is with the Delta AirLines representatives, where Natia Turnava will also discuss the opportunities of launching the bilateral flights.
The working visit is co-organized by the Ministry of economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and the Embassy of Georgia to the United States of America.
