Independent MP Eka Beselia says recordings of private lives are still being used

Independent MP of the Georgian Parliament, Eka Beselia said that she has information that several people still are subjects of blackmail by secret recordings of their private life.
“I am not saying that this is happening very often. However, I have information about some cases, but they have to talk themselves. This is not a topic where I can break into someone’s private space. This is very painful for me because it was the first thing that we had to change,” said Beselia. The lawmaker did not specify whether the MPs were among those people.
According to her, it does not matter how many people are affected by it, because ignoring even a few cases will increase the problem eventually:
“It would not be ethical for me to talk on behalf of these people, but to think that the system is using the same methods as the previous regime, it is the most disgusting thing for me,” noted Beselia.
Gia Volski, the leader of the Georgian Parliament, has called the statements of Beselia a “misinformation”. According to Volski, this is an act close to political immorality.
“If Eka Beselia has any such information, it must either be made known to the public or at least she should make it clear and be loud about it. Someone being blackmailed is not Georgian Dream government's handwriting, I think that Beselia is providing inaccurate information to the public,” noted Volski.
According to Volski, Beselia knows very well who was responsible for recordings of people’s private lives. “When you come up with such allegations against the government it means that you say that violent regime and today’s government are the same. Eka Beselia herself has fought against that regime for years,” said Volski.
As Beselia replied, Voslki is someone who can “slender Ivanishvili behind his back, including while talking with me, and then praise him in his face because Voslki is a man who has his own mercantile and business interests.”
Few months ago, the Ministry of Internal Affairs charged a person for spreading a video of MP’s private life. According to the MIA, a citizen of Georgia D.A., who is serving a prison sentence for murder, received the mentioned recordings from the citizen of Russia – M.D. through the Facebook app, messenger. As Chelidze noted, “secret recordings depicting a Georgian lawmaker’s private life were leaked in January of 2019 from the territory of the Republic of Armenia by a citizen of Georgia.”
