Visa-free Travel to be activated between Paraguay and Georgia

As of September 20, visa-free travel between Georgia and Paraguay will be activated.

The Government of Georgia has issued a decree on signing the Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Republic of Paraguay on freeing the holders of ordinary passport from the obligation to obtain a visa.

Ordinary passports are passports issued to citizens of the country based on their personal credentials.

It is not yet known when visa-free travel between Georgia and Paraguay will come into force.



Iranian and South African citizens arrested for drug trafficking in Georgia

On September 24, Georgian police detained six people for drug trafficking on the territory of Georgia.

Mamuka Chelidze, Director of the Central Criminal Department said that the detainee, who was arrested for the purchase and possession of a large quantity of heroin, is an Iranian citizen.

"Police and officials of the Revenue Service arrested L.M. at the Batumi International Airport while he was trying to smuggle 16 kg of marijuana into Georgia. The crime is punishable from 15 to 20 years or life imprisonment," said Chelidze.

According to the report, officers of the Central Criminal Police Departments for Combating Drug Trafficking in Narcotics arrested two members of the criminal group, especially for illegal purchase and storage of large quantities of drugs.

As of 1 January 2019, as a result of operative investigations carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, seized: 25 kg of heroin, 1 kg and 950 grams of cocaine, 11600 pills Subutex and Suboxone, more than 4,000 pills of Ecstasy, 9 kg and 600 grams of psychoactive substance and 1 kg and 200 grams of psychotropic drugs.
