Georgia and France to deepen viticulture sector relations
The Agricultural Research Center of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia and the National Institute of Agricultural Research of France (INRA) are cooperating to deepen viticulture sector relations between the two countries.
The cooperation comprises developing joint projects, researching wine varieties, joint fieldwork and exchanging acquired information. A scientific committee will be set up and members will be chosen from the French Institute of Agriculture Research and the National Institute of Agricultural Research of France viticulturists.
“The varieties of Georgian cultural and wild vines preserved in the Jigaura vineyard collection represent a rare diversity that is largely unrelated to the genetic resources of Europe. That is why there is a common interest in better understanding these scientific methods and then comparing them with the international genetic resources at INRA. The richness of each collection reflecting regional diversity is of common interest for conservation, characterization and scientific purposes,” said Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Agricultural Research Center.
