Memorandums on vocational training and employment of Georgian seafarers signed with Germany and Brazil
Tamar Ioseliani, Head of the Maritime Transport Agency at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, signed Memorandums of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Maritime Transport with Germany and Brazil.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the memorandum signed with the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure of Germany envisages deepening cooperation in the maritime transport sector. According to the document, Georgia views Germany as a strategic partner in the maritime field. Among the programs implemented by the countries, the program of technical assistance and sharing of best practices in the maritime sphere for Georgia is particularly important, which will enable us to get closer to German standards in the future.
As for the second memorandum, it was signed by the Maritime Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development with the relevant Brazilian agency. It is a matter of mutual recognition of seafarers' certificates between Brazil and Georgia, which will enable Georgian seafarers to be employed and serve on commercial vessels sailing under the Brazilian flag.
The signing of the memorandum was held during the working visit of the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Natia Turnava to the United Kingdom. The Georgian delegation, led by Natia Turnava, participates in the 31st session of the International Maritime Assembly. The Minister will address a session of the organization focusing on Georgia's potential and its competitive advantages in terms of maritime shipping, including the importance of the middle corridor and the attractive investment environment in Georgia. Natia Turnava will introduce the international maritime community to the major infrastructure projects implemented by the Georgian government and which will substantially change the maritime sector in our country soon.
Within the framework of the Assembly, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia has already met with the curators of the Greek and Cypriot Maritime Transport, during which they discussed cooperation issues on education and employment of Georgian seafarers on Greek and Cypriot ships.
Other bilateral meetings are also planned with the delegations of France, the US, Estonia, the Netherlands, Malta and Singapore. Natia Turnava will also meet with Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization Kitak Lim.
Georgia and Japan to work closely together in the field of education
Georgian Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Mikheil Chkhenkeli, who is paying an official visit to Japan, met with the leadership of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), where the sides discussed issues of cooperation in the field of education.
According to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli thanked the Japanese side for the hospitality and introduced the ongoing reforms in the Georgian education system. He emphasized that education is a priority of the Georgian government and that 6 percent of GDP will be spent on the education system.
At the bilateral meeting, Mikheil Chkhenkeli noted that the main challenge and priority of the Georgian government is professional education. At the same time, the role of the teacher in the field of general education plays a huge role in enhancing its prestige and professional development, which is also a priority of education reform.
At the meeting, Mikheil Chkhenkeli emphasized that the involvement of Japanese experts in the process of refining the education system is very important for the Georgian side. For this purpose, Mikheil Chkhenkeli proposed to the Japanese side to establish Georgian centers in Japan to deepen cooperation. The initiative for the arrival of volunteer teachers in Georgia was discussed for teaching the Japanese language.
According to the agency, the Minister also spoke with the representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency about the importance of Kutaisi International University, which will start functioning next year. In this regard, Mikheil Chkhenkeli offered the host side to involve the professors of leading Japanese universities in Kutaisi International University's academic and scientific activities.
At the end of the meeting, the leadership of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which is interested in cooperation with Georgia in the field of education, expressed readiness to actively cooperate in exchange programs for students and professors.
