Special meeting to be held regarding juvenile justice, Gakharia states
Giorgi Gakharia stated that spe¬cial meeting regarding juvenile justice will be held at the Govern¬ment Administration. The meeting will be attended by juvenile justice specialists, NGOs together with state representatives.
“There have to be specific actions coordinated by us. I believe that there is no time to politicize tragic events, now is the time to take spe¬cific actions.”
According to Gakharia, every¬thing associated with children care should be effective and efficient, to refrain from potential tragedies in the future.
He also stated that every department of the state has to act on specific tasks for juvenile justice. Gakharia briefly listed specific ministries and their missions regarding the issue:
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs must work on improving and shaping the environment suitable for interrogation of un¬derage children, the Ministry of Education, along with other ministries should work on should aim to provide permanent and continuing training for all public servants or persons who have contact with minors; the Ministry of Justice should take care of protecting the rights of underage people when in contact with law enforcement system. And of course, the Ministry of Health should take care of social issues that may affect adolescent psychology.”
Gakharia’s initiative was announced following the tragic death of the 15-year-old teenager, who allegedly was driven to attempted suicide after questioned by Police.
The teenager was left without a parent for 20 minutes, State Inspector says
State Inspector Londa Toloraia states that the 15-year-old boy was left without a parent for 20 minutes. According to her, when the police were questioning the teenager, the mother left for about 20 minutes to bring data, which was requested by the policemen.
“The mother left the station for approximately 20 minutes, and the kid was left alone. We have the video footage of what happened. It is forbidden to tape private conversations of em¬ployees everywhere. Accordingly, it is not taped at the police station as well.”
According to her, psychologists were not present during the interrogation of the underage boy.
‘Illegal obtainment of students’ personal data by school administration detected’ State Inspector Service states
‘The violation of illegal obtaining, storing and spreading of the students’ personal data by school administration has been detected’, stated the head of the Private and Public Sector Supervision Department of the State Inspector Service, Otar Chakhunashvili.
According to him, within the framework of the case, they will also examine the legality of installing the video camera on school territory.
“The examination of the legality of personal data research by school administration will be finalized as soon as possible. This decision is based on the investigation results and the informa¬tion spread throughout the media. We will, of course, publicize the examination results to society.”
Arrested investigator Mariana Choloian’s lawyer stated that when the police arrived at the scene, the Mtvsane (green) School administration showed them the videotape that shows the presumable identities of those who sprayed the walls. They also showed screenshots of private conversations on Facebook between the pupils.
The 15-year-old teenager was allegedly driven to a suicide attempt after being pressured by police at the questioning for coercion to testimony. Six days later the boy died in the Iashvili Children Clinic.
