'Ministry of Foreign Affairs receives critical letter from Germany and France but won’t make it public'
The European Georgia leader Giorgi Kandelaki says the French and German foreign ministers have written a joint letter to the Georgian government. According to Kandelaki, the letter critically assesses developments in Georgia. Kandelaki notes that he can not tell the press about the content of the letter as the Foreign Ministry should make it public.
As for the Ministry of Foreign affairs, they have confirmed that the letter was sent to the ministry, but they noted that it was very supportive of Georgian democracy and that they are not going to release it themselves because they do not want to put Georgia’s international partners in an ‘awkward position.’ They added that making the letter public is a prerogative of the parties who addressed the Foreign Ministry with the letter.
"It would be great for us to publish because the letter is very balanced, supportive and constructive. We are not going to put our German and French partners in an awkward position.”
Archil Talakvadze met with the US Ambassador to Georgia
Priorities of the US-Georgia relations and future plans were discussed by the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Archil Talakvadze and the US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan.
“The visit of the Speaker to the US summed up the meeting held in Parliament. According to the parties, the visit was productive, and high-level meetings in Washington will further enhance bilateral ties," reads the press release from the Parliament's press office.
The Speaker of Parliament thanked the US Ambassador for the support of Georgia by the US Government.
The parties reaffirmed their readiness for further close cooperation.
New US Ambassador Kelly Degnan arrived in Georgia on January 29.
