President Salome Zourabishvili releases statement regarding increased cases of femicide in Georgia
“Any kind of violence against women is unacceptable. All cases of murder are staggering, but when a woman is killed because she is a woman, it is a community problem. The government’s active involvement, along with education, culture and society consolidation is crucial. Raising awareness in society is a must. State, society and religious organizations should all work together to prevent violence.”
The President of Georgia considers it advisable to hold a meeting with state, international and non-governmental organizations working on violence against women at the Orbelian Palace next week to discuss additional needs and possible initiatives related to this issue.
Two women have been killed in Georgia over the past week. In both cases, the accused was arrested.
Malkhaz Machalikashvili calls on Georgian Dream to send young people to help collect signatures
Malkhaz Machalikashvili, the father of Temirlan Machalikashvili, who was fatally wounded during a special operation in Pankisi Gorge, continues to collect signatures demanding the establishment of Temporary Investigative Commission in Parliament. He placed a banner at the Rustaveli Metro Station and plans to collect signatures. his main seat will be in front of the Parliament from March.
“The signatures will be collected and Temporary commission in the Parliament will be created, whether the government wants it or not. Everyone in Georgia should be aware of what kind of government we have and in what ways they are fighting Machalikashvili, and what they have done against him, this is what I am fighting for,” said Malkhaz Machalikashvili.
Machalikashvili asked Georgian Dream to send help for collecting signatures:
“Because Georgian Dream is fighting me, I would like to ask them to send a group of young people for help.”
Machalikashvili also noted that there are people from the United Opposition, Chechnya, Ingushetia and all over Georgia.
