Coronavirus expected to reach peak in following weeks, Paata Imnadze says

Deputy Head of the Georgian National Disease Control Centre Paata Imnadze told reporters that the inner mass spread of the Coronavirus will be announced as soon as the healthcare system fails to identify each part of the chain of contacts. Currently, every patient’s origin of Covid-19 infection is identified.

According to Paata Imnadze, more Coronavirus cases are expected next week, as well as the expansion of the area of the virus outbreak.

“I understand that everybody wants to know what will happen but as soon as the inner outbreak will start in the country, we are going to tell you when we are going to reach the peak and name time. Before that, we have to prepare ourselves for the increase in the number of cases,” said Imnadze.

Paata Imnadze assesses the measures taken in the past month preventing the spread of Coronavirus in Georgia as effective. According to him, if appropriate measures have not been taken since the first case of the virus was identified in Georgia, Georgia would have a lot more cases.

“Today marks the first month of Coronavirus identified in Georgia. If we compare our experience to countries similar to ours, including the population, we would have had three or four times more cases of the virus, if not preventive measures were not taken,” Imnadze stated.

The number of people infected with Coronavirus on March 26 was 79, 10 patients have recovered from Covid-19, 4346 people are quarantined. It was reported that more people are expected to recover and be discharged from the Hospital for Infectious Diseases in the following days.
