Energy sector at potential risk from COVID-19 pandemic
Friday, April 3
As a response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Energy Community Secretariat has announced that it is making all its resources available to support its Contracting Parties in managing the crisis.
The Secretariat has announced that although the energy sectors are currently functioning well in the Energy Community Contracting Parties, there are several concerns for the immediate future. The financial liquidity of energy companies in the whole supply chain could be at risk due to non-payment, and the depreciation of national currencies could cause higher procurement costs. Moreover, system security in the coming summer and winter months could be endangered if maintenance is not done on time.
The Secretariat will continue to monitor the situation in consultation with the Security of Supply Coordination Groups.
