310 new cases of Covid-19 reported in Georgia over the weekend

The epidemiological situation in Georgia has worsened over the weekend. In total, there were 310 new cases of the virus reported in the country in the last two days, out of which, 158 were reported on Saturday, and 152- on Sunday.
The head of the National Center for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze explains the rapid increase in the number of people infected with the Coronavirus and says there is no reason to panic. Gamkrelidze calls on citizens to follow the regulations that exist to protect themselves from the spread of the virus.
Gamkrelidze also emphasizes the increased rate of testing, which helps to detect cases early. On September 11th and 12th, a record increase in the number of people infected with coronavirus was observed in Georgia, with the number of confirmed cases exceeding 2,000 in total.
On September 11th, by the decision of the government, the start of the educational process in the big cities of Georgia was postponed until October 1st. The closure order was also given to those schools that had been allowed to work since September 1st.
On September 10th, it was forbidden to organize social events (weddings, birthdays, etc). Gatherings of more than 200 people at cultural and sports events have been banned.
2025 PCR tests were conducted in Adjara on Saturday, confirming 88 new cases. There are 277 patients in the hospital and quarantine: 136 in the Republic Hospital; Infectious - 21; In Medalfa - 42; 2932 persons (non-positive) are quarantined.
In total, there are 2227 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus in the country, including 1369 recoveries and 19 deaths. 5882 people are in quarantine, 390 are under hospital supervision.
According to the representatives of the Solidarity Alliance of Georgia, the executive secretary of the party, Gedevan Popkhadze was also tested positive for the COVID-19.
“Gedevan Popkhadze was taken into the Republic Hospital of Tbilisi with a high temperature. The political secretary of the party, Levan Gogichaishvili, and his wife were also tested positive for the coronavirus a few days ago,” reads the statement of the party.
The virus is spreading fast in the neighboring countries of Georgia as well. Armenian authorities have announced a four-month quarantine across the country due to an increase in the COVID-19 cases. The decision was made because the state of emergency imposed on March 16th expired on September 11th.
The quarantine will be in effect in Armenia from September 11th to January 11th next year.
Worldwide, the number of people infected with COVID-19 is increasing daily. As of now, there are more than 29 million confirmed cases around the world, with the US (6.6 million) and India (4.7 million) having confirmed the most cases.
