Friday, October 29

Contemporary Italian Art in Tbilisi, The Embassy of Italy in Georgia and the Georgian National Museum present the exhibition Silk Road: Contemporary Art and Artists from Italy which will be open to visitors from 28 October to 22 November at the Ioseb Grishashvili Tbilisi History Museum (8 Sioni St.).

The 38 works on display (8 of which are preserved in the Farnesina collection) present a panorama of contemporary Italian art from the 1960s to present days and combine different visions of different generations of Italian artists and works created with different expressive languages and techniques (painting, photography or installation). The three main themes of the exposition are related to travel, meeting newness and discovery.

This exhibition is a continuation of the result of the close cooperation between Georgia and Italian Institutions and is part of a large-scale cultural project that connects Europe and Asia along the Silk Road. In 2017-2019, the Embassy of the Italian Republic in Georgia and the Georgian National Museum organized exhibitions of international importance in 2 main exhibition spaces in Tbilisi. The main cultural event of 2021 was the exhibition of Pompeii treasures, first at the Archaeological Museum of Vani, and now at the Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia in Tbilisi.

The exhibition was initiated and put together by the Garuzzo Institute for Visual Arts (IGAV) with the contribution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, with the patronage of the Ministry of Culture.

After the capital of Georgia, the exhibition will take the road to the east and finally, in 2022, will end in China.
